Delay-independent stabilization for teleoperation with time varying delay

金沢大学理工研究域電子情報学系This paper deals with the stability for nonlinear teleoperation with time varying communication delays. The proposed method is passivity-based controllers with time varying gains which depend on the rate of change of time varying delay. In our proposed method, stability condition is independent of the magnitude of the communication delay and the damping of the system. The delay-independent stability is shown via Lyapunov stability methods. Several experimental results show the effectiveness of our proposed teleoperation. © 2009 AACC

H∞ DIA control of magnetic suspension systems

金沢大学大学院自然科学研究科知能情報・数理金沢大学工学部This paper deals with the ℋH∞ DIA control system design attenuating initial-state uncertainties and its application to magnetic suspension systems. Here the ℋH∞, DIA control means a mixed Disturbance and an Initial-state uncertainty Attenuation(DIA) control for linear time-invariant systems in the infinite-horizon case. The ℋH∞ DIA control problem supplies ℋH∞ controls with good transients and assures ℋH∞ controls of robustness against initial-state uncertainties. We derived a necessary and sufficient condition of the generalized ℋH∞ DIA problem. In this paper, we apply this ℋH∞ DIA approach to magnetic suspension systems, and evaluate a mixed attenuation property of the proposed approach via experiments. We investigate a role of the weighting matrix N for the initial state uncertainty in the control system design. © 2004 IEEE

Multiple Chemical Sensitivities Following Intolerance to Azo Dye in Sweets in a 5-year-old Girl

ABSTRACTBackgroundCases of multiple chemical sensitivities (MCS) have been reported predominantly in adult patients, but pediatric cases have rarely been reported.MethodsWe present a 5-year-old girl who suffered from recurrent reactions accompanied by urticaria, angioedema, headaches, dyspnea, loss of consciousness, and abdominal pain that were not eradicated, but were instead exacerbated, by various treatments with antihistamines and intravenous corticosteroids. Her diet diary revealed that symptoms occurred after ingestion of colorful sweets such as candies and jellybeans. Open challenge tests with food additives and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) were performed after elimination of these items. Skin prick tests using additives and NSAIDs, which were dissolved in saline, and prick-prick tests using candies and jellybeans, were carried out.ResultsOpen challenge tests with Tartrazine, aspirin and acetaminophen were positive, whereas skin prick tests using additives and NSAIDs and prick-prick tests using candies and jellybeans were all negative. Consequently, intolerance to azo dyes and NSAIDs such as aspirin was diagnosed. However, she appeared to react to multiple chemical odors such as those of cigarette smoke, disinfectant, detergent, cleaning compounds, perfume, and hairdressing, all while avoiding additives and NSAIDs. On the basis of her history and the neuro-ophthalmological abnormalities, a diagnosis of severe MCS was made and she was prescribed multiple vitamins and glutathione.ConclusionsThe present results suggest that in pediatric MCS, food and drug additives containing azo dyes might play important roles as elicitors

Performance of a Whole-Blood Interferon-Gamma Release Assay with Mycobacterium RD1-Specific Antigens among HIV-Infected Persons

Objective. To evaluate the usefulness of one of IGRAs, QuantiFERON-TB Gold (QFT-G), in human immunodeficiency virus- (HIV- ) infected patients with various CD4+ T cell counts. Methods. The QFT-G assay was performed using QFT-G kits among 107 HIV-infected patients including 9 cases with active tuberculosis (TB). Results. In HIV-infected patients with CD4+ > 50/μL, QFT-G positive rate for active TB patients was 5/6 (sensitivity = 83%), and that for those without active disease was 1/69 (specificity = 99%). The frequency of indeterminate QFT-G test was significantly higher in those with CD4+ less than 50/μL (P < .0001). At the same time there was a proportional relationship between CD4+ and interferon-gamma response to mitogen (positive control) in QFT-G test (P = .0001). Conclusions. Our data suggested that QFT-G had high sensitivity and specificity in HIV-infected populations with CD4+ greater than 50/μL. However, QFT-G did not perform well in HIV-positive patients with CD4+ less than 50/μL

Phylogeny and ontogeny of mental time

Humans have mental time in our mind, apart from physical time that is a part of system that governs the physical world, and memory is our key cognitive ability for recognizing the passage of time. Recent studies have suggested that the memory system of several nonhuman animals may have an incidental nature, which is also a feature of episodic memory. In addition, apes, which are phylogenetically close to humans, have an ability to remember a single past event. In the case of humans, preverbal infants under the age of two are able to retain long-term memory of a single event and apply it to predict a future event. Thus, nonhuman animals and preverbal human infants both have their own specific mental time travel abilities, and there is a phylogenetic and ontogenic basis of full-fledged mental time travel that can be found in human adults

The purpose of this paper is to newly clarify the challenges surrounding the“ Gap between theories and practices” which the social work expertise involves, and also to review the significance and effectiveness of introducing ethnomethodology to resolve them, through the abuse case in a certain institution. The effectiveness of introducing ethnomethodology is discussed by raising the constructive features of social work practices «hear and now» in particular. Also, they are positioned as the “ ethnomethodological senses” in the social worker’s expertise to assert the significance of their acquisition
